Welcome to
Tha-Rang.
Tha-Rang School of Music offers tabla lessons in Johannesburg, led by principal and tabla teacher Ravi Rugbeer, a disciple of Pt Sadanand Naimpalli. Teaching brings together technique, rhythm and an understanding of Indian classical music.
Learning tabla takes time, listening and regular practice. From the first clear strokes to playing with other musicians, there is always something more to learn.

Naimpalli
Revered Guru of Ravi Rugbeer, Principal of Tha-Rang School of Music.
A distinguished tabla and pakhawaj maestro, Pandit Sadanand Naimpalli trained under the legendary Pandit Taranathji of the Farrukhabad gharana. He received the President’s Award after placing first in the All India Radio competition in 1963 and is a Top Grade artist of Akashvani and Doordarshan.
Celebrated as a soloist, accompanist and educator, Guruji has performed in India and internationally. His workshops and lecture-demonstrations share a deep understanding of rhythm, composition and the art of tabla.
